The Department of Architecture at Epoka University, welcomes participants to the third International Conference on Architecture and Urban Design (ICAUD), to be held on 24 – 26 October, 2019 in Tirana, Albania. Building upon the success of the first and second ICAUD, the conference promises a wide range of topics on architecture and urban design and an international audience of academics and practitioners from around the world. The 2-ICAUD provided an international forum for knowledge exchange where 145 scientific papers and posters were presented by academics from 15 different countries. All contributions were reviewed from a scientific committee consisting of internationally acclaimed scholars.  The keynote speakers comprised internationally renowned academics and local policy makers.

The continuous concentration of the world population in the urban areas requires more and more spaces and places, resources and energies, modalities of mobility and transport, social inclusion and integrated economies. Considering also that the past general trend produced or helped many environmental challenges in both local and global scale: such as climate changes, social marginalization, advancing in land consumption, growing in demand for energies, loss of jobs and so on. These have become the major challenges for the 21st century and some of the greatest problems facing humanity in the next future, but starting from today. The aim of this conference is to provide a multidisciplinary context for a general debate about the forthcoming approaches in architectural and urban designing for the human's Next Places/Next Spaces. It may represent a opportunity in which, through a collection of international speeches, attenders can reflect about how designing is evolving in the arena of worldwide practices and “experiments” aimed to a better quality of life.

Best papers will be published in the Special Issue of "The Urban Book Series", a resource for urban studies and geography research by Springer.
